Brachioplasty, more commonly known as an arm lift, is often combined with a breast reduction. Together, they can completely rejuvenate and transform your appearance and how you feel about your body. By removing excess skin and fat, our experienced and skilled providers can help you achieve slimmer, smoother, and more toned arms.
Who is a Good Candidate for Brachioplasty?
Many people are good candidates for an arm lift. If you’re struggling with unwanted fat in your upper arm, sagging or loose skin, or changes in skin elasticity, you may be the perfect candidate for an arm lift. Some other criteria that can make you an ideal candidate include:
- Being a nonsmoker
- At a stable weight
- In generally good health
- Not having certain medical conditions that could increase the risk of complications
- Having realistic expectations
The Procedure
The arm lift procedure begins with the administration of general anesthesia to ensure you’re completely comfortable throughout the surgery. Your provider will then make an incision on the inside or back of your arm. From there, they will remove excess skin and fat, and sutures will be used to tighten and shape the underlying tissues. The incisions will then be closed, and you’ll be taken to our recovery suite. The procedure takes about three hours.
Recovery
Before you leave the office, your provider will give you detailed aftercare instructions to ensure you know how to take care of your incisions and what activities to avoid as you heal.
You’ll have some mild discomfort, bruising, and swelling as you start your recovery. You’ll want to elevate your arms on pillows to ease swelling and bruising and avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activities. Your arms will also be wrapped in a compression garment, which you should wear until your surgeon tells you otherwise. You’ll also be prescribed pain medication to ease discomfort.
As for results, you will notice some initial changes immediately, but it will take a few months before the swelling will fully subside and your final results are completely visible.

see what you COULD look like
One of the hardest parts of getting cosmetic surgery is knowing what you’ll look like after the procedure is done. Our providers can describe the procedure and the results perfectly, but being unable to see it can make some patients apprehensive. With the Crisalix 3D Imaging software, you can actually see a visualization of your “after” pictures.
At Iowa Breast Reduction, we are proud to offer the Crisalix 3D imaging technology. This game-changing tool allows you to see your “after” before you ever schedule your procedure.
